so, I turned 26 recently. According to my childhood plans, I’m way behind in life. Now that I’m ‘grown up’ I was supposed to have saved the world, become an artist, ballerina, car mechanic AND paediatrician. I remember a grade 3 teacher telling the class that we could be anything we wanted in the world. She asked us to name a profession that we wanted to aspire to. My hand shot up immediately, and when called upon, I said “I wanna be a Catholic Priest, is that possible? you said anything!” I didn’t actually want to be a priest, I just wanted to prove the teacher wrong.

I recently ran into an embarrassing situation that makes me realize I’m not as ‘grown up’ as I’m afraid of becoming. The story starts off with a confession… I’m a handicap stall lover. You know, in public restrooms? I go right to the handicap stall. I though EVERYONE used the handicap stall.. it has so much room in it, and always has a purse hook… its just so logical. So, I’m at the movie theatre and it has about 10 stalls. Of course, as usual, I use the handicap. I walk out of and there is a mother and her daughter waiting to use it, the daughter in a wheelchair. The mother pointedly looks at all the other empty stalls and then back at me. I mumbled sorry and RAN out of there! In my 26 years of using handi stalls, I finally run into someone who needs it. I have to admit, those are some pretty big odds, BUT I’m not going to wait another 26 years to break the habit.

In my attempt to really grow up, I’m wondering what other habits I have, hidden from myself, that I think are perfectly normal, but find out in an embarrassing way, that they aren’t! I think the list is growing shorter.. Maybe once I finish it, I can start saving the world.

Walk Off The Earth and Monsters and Men

New Music: The Burlington, Ontario band Walk off the Earth really intrigues me… They have made themselves successful but making wicked covers… bringing their own sound to old favourites. They remind me of Behind Sapphire does, I hope they start making their own songs again soon!

Annnnd check out these guys, the Icelandic Indie band Monsters and Men… aren’t they fantastic?

Bookcase idea!

So, i had this fantastic idea last year to use a bookshelf to store my sweaters and pants, for lack of closet space… but its always been half empty. So this weekend i finished it!

I love this saying… my friends and I are such crafty people, I think we were born in the wrong decade. We went down to the One of a Kind craft show this weekend… which was like meeting etsy.com in person! amazing! craft-astical! homemade-tific!! I loved the dedication that the artisans put into their work and the careful branding and design of their booth. It really opened my eyes to how many things I throw out that can be used for, like, everything. I think my favourite idea was the white painted mason jars, they were so classy/country/vintage! and the beautiful handpainted giraffes and animals for a kids room… Hurry up and have kids, married/”ready” friends! All throughout the craft show, I kept saying to the girls, OMG, we can TOTALLY make that. So, true to my word, I have TONS of stuff to make in the next couple of months…. quite excited to pull out the dusty sewing machine.

I fell in LOVE with all the fastinator booths at the show, and it reminded me of this absolutely fantastic artist who had done fascinators for one of my weddings last fall, and I thought, MAYBE shes here… she was! I noticed her booth right away, by how beautiful all the pieces were! Even when talking to her, I was distracted by the uniqueness and colour of each piece… I had to buy one! Check out her website, she is absolutely fantastic.

Guess what else I found at the craft show… A TIME TURNER! maybe not the exact one from the HP world, but a really cool muggle version.

We also went to the absolutely amazing 6 level pub Madisons, I have never been in such a cool place before! each level had its own different style… starting with sports bar on the bottom, and multiple patios, piano bar(our favourite) and many levels of english style pubs. And, for the past few years, every time I go to Toronto, I plan to go to Poutinis, a FANTASTICAL poutine place that serves VEGAN poutine! (Along with other death-eaters poutines as well) This time, I made it a point to go their… and it was worth it. Even the crazy cabbie that drove us back… He kept racing the other cabbies at stoplights??

Spring weather brings….18 K hikes… oh my gluts!

Ok, so I am totally proud and WAY jealous of my little brother, Alex. He just spent the last few weeks in Nepal, trekking to the Mount Everest base camp! Check out their blog and pictures.
