What to wear to diner en blanc

Diner en Blanc Outfit

I was so excited about Diner en Blanc, I had my outfit picked out before I got my confirmation email as the official photographer. A beautiful white dress from Aritzia I had purchased a few years ago… and it fit me perfectly! Two days before Diner en Blanc Vancouver I tried everything on to make sure it still fit. The white dress, brown shoes and beige purse was a perfect combination. Until I decided to stand beside my white walls, and realized that my white dress was actually dark cream. Upon further research, cream is a major faux-pa at a white party, as was any shoes or purse that wasn’t white. Entry can be denied if the shoes aren’t white! A social outcast I would be! Frantically, I started searching everywhere for a white purse, new white outfit and white shoes.

I decided to cover my camera strap as well, I was worried the black camera would stick out amidst the sea of heavenly white. I went into Dressew in Gastown to find some white linen and came out with an adorable black and white burlesque hat was covered in black mesh and feathers.  I was inspired by the mad hatter from Alice in Wonderland – and decided to redo the hat in a simple bow tie and cover it in linen. It turned out perfect! I felt like a female, not crazy, Johnny Depp.

As it turned out, a lot of people had cream on, black shoes, brown belts and different coloured purses. It does stick out though, especially in photographs!
