A long walk barefoot on the beach… the sun setting behind the mountains…the groom, bending down on one knee and a photographer to capture it all!
I was so excited to capture Adam and Jen’s proposal! Adam had it set up for weeks. They were coming to St. Maarten from LA for a few days and staying on the french side, in Anse Marcel. I checked out the beach a few weeks ahead and set up a plan, to make the best of the location, lighting and couple. I wanted a time where there weren’t too many tourist on the beach, but we still had enough light.
I figured out a plan…I was going to be on the beach, with a model, taking photos of her. Behind her, Adam and Jen would be walking down the beach towards me. I had drawn a heart in the sand where Adam was to propose, so we both knew when and where it would happen. As he got closer, my model would hop out of the way and I would capture the proposal. It didn’t go down like that exactly, but it was pretty close. Jesse was set up in the background, filming the scene, while I was taking pictures of a friend modelling. I was able to spot Adam and Jen from far off (Adam sent me a picture of the two of them beforehand) and everyone jumped into action! Once Adam was at the heart, he turned to me and asked me to take a picture with their camera. As soon as I told them to smile, he popped down on one knee and asked the question. It was beautiful. The crashing waves and my distance gave them enough privacy ( I couldn’t even hear them), the later hour lacked tourist on the beach, and the setting sun was just dreamy. What a perfect idea, capturing the proposal on film and video!
I hope more grooms to be go this route!
