When Shawna and Todd began emailing me about their wedding, I was SOO excited! A small town hall wedding with the groom in the military? EEK! Check three off my wedding photography bucket list. I love the intimacy of small weddings, the background of City hall and the crispness of the uniform. When we finally met I felt an immediate connection with Shawna. An modern environmental vegan with the cutest pixie haircut and the bestest freckles… I couldn’t wait to shoot her!
Shawna and Todd had their large wedding planned for October 2011. With a guest list of 300 people and all the bells and whistles, the couple didn’t feel it was as intimate and personal as they had envisioned… not their perfect wedding. Shawna and Todd canceled the wedding a few months prior, apparently not a popular decision with family members.
Two years later Shawna and Todd, along with their son Callan. had their perfect wedding. Surrounded by parents, grandparents and siblings, they had a lovely private vow exchange at city hall. The photo session took place later at the Art Gallery of Sudbury with a beautiful vintage car. Todd’s uniform and the 1940 Ford Coupe added a beautiful vintage flair to the wedding.
Halfway through the shoot, Shawna told me she didn’t bring anything else formal for the evening ( They lived out of town, and were here for a few days) and was planning on changing into her jeans for the evening. I was in total angst over this… no bride should have to put jeans on for her wedding evening! After the photoshoot I picked her up a few party dresses to try on… She choose the perfect vintage black and white dress! I wish I had a photo of it!
The wedding reception took place at a local waterfront restaurant (Curious Thyme’s Bistro, in Science North) and the party kept going all evening long at a local nightclub.
