Rainy Day Wedding with Studio Photos
Amy has been a nearest and dearest for over ten years – we have travelled together, worked together and her and Matt have been amazing friends as long as I have known them. Despite growing apart distance wise in the past few years, I always look forward to Amy time, especially when it’s on a beach with a drink in hand! I loved being a part of her big day and had such a wonderful time shooting both her and Matt’s lovely families.
Amy and Matt’s mutual respect and kindness they have for each other is stronger than any love you can show on Facebook. These two are equals in everything they do, including the decision to get married. This modern couple didn’t have the classic proposal story, the decision was made together, at a time in life when they both felt ready. As non-formal as their engagement was, it still involved a ring – a ring that evokes envy from most females, including myself! The stunning oval cut diamond is surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds on a rose gold band. The oval cut diamond is relatively new, created in the mid 20th century. This brilliant cut is based on the round cut, and preserves its sparkly and flashy qualities but in a more unique shape. Matt’s wedding band was also noteworthy, his grandfather passed away in the last year and Matt inherited his ring from his wedding 60 years ago.
The Wedding Day
The skies were dark, the rain was torrential and the wind unbearable. Amy had wanted images done on her aunts acreage, which included beautiful trails, a lovely pond and still had some stunning fall colours. There was not a moment it didn’t rain all day and even with umbrellas the wind would have soaked everyone. Luckily we had a backup plan. I had a portable studio for situations like this and I was really excited to shoot studio wedding photos. I was able to use some lovely natural light available at the back of the arena hall, and my amazing assistant Brandon Lefebvre helped out with additional lighting and setting up the backdrop. I am so excited about these photos, I always love studio images of the wedding day, I loved looking at my parents images from 30+ years ago and realize the lighting, location and style of traditional studio photos never go out of style.
From the Bride: ‘In retrospect I’m happy it was raining, I never would have chosen studio wedding photos so the rain pushed me outside my comfort zone and I LOVE them! And I love that they’re unique and timeless.’
Amy and Matt planned their own wedding with help from friends and family. The location was difficult to choose as Amy really wanted her relatives to cater the event, but there were few halls in Sudbury that allow you to bring in your own caterer. They choose the Edgar Leclair Arena in Azilda, which was decorated beautifully by Unforgettable Weddings. Amy’s mom made her favourite almond cake for their wedding cake. Amy choose to do her flowers herself, after a few youtube tutorials she place an order with Costco for flowers for the wedding day. I had experience before making bouquets and assisted her the day before the wedding to make the bouquets! I am quite proud of my boutonnieres as well, which were a lot easier than I though.
At the end of the night, Amy and Matt were the last to leave. They turned down a few offers for rides home and after everyone left they realized they weren’t able to get a cab. They stood at the bar eating pizza and laughing over their situation when a rather inebriated friend of the grooms from burst into the hall out of nowhere and realized their situation and guilted a cab company to save the stranded bride and groom.
