Hi! I'm Caroline Ross.
I'm a photographer in Sudbury, Ontario.
I'm a on-location photographer, and I love the variety this style gives me (whats on-location mean? I don't have a studio, everything is done at the clients house, or at a location of choice). This style allows me to work with natural lighting and really brings out spontaneous expression. I always shoot with my 50 mm 1.4 Canon lens, on my Canon 5d Mark III. This lens is my favourite, it is said to be to lens that best captures what the human eye sees, and I really like the narrow depth of field and its small size.
When I was younger, I spent summers living like a gypsy throughout Canada and the US, and thats when my love for photography started. I used to make a viewfinder out of my fingers and pretend to capture the images as we drove by the the breathtaking scenery. I used to want to paint all those scenes, and went to University for fine art. I didn't pick up a camera until my second year for a photography course, it was my little Canon G7-but I didn't like photography at all, I never learned to appreciated it until last year. What changed? There wasn't a whole lot of work for a painter, I decided to direct my talents elsewhere.
It wasn't until 2009 that I bought my first DSLR and started doing a few friends and families weddings. I currently only take 15 weddings a year, and limit my other sessions in order not to go crazy. (I have another full time job as well... ). Although... its not too bad when I go crazy, I just eat a lot of olive, pineapple and tomatoes sandwiches.
I get excited about odd things, like eyebrows, cloudy skies right before sunset and reflections in movie star's eyes. I also like collecting things like show boxes and pretzel containers to put Christmas presents in... It's an unfortunate side effect of being an artist.
Did I mention I'm a vegan and environmentalist? I'm doing a "year without materialism", buying all my clothing second hand, or -if I absolutely cannot find it, then it has to be made in Canada. I bring my beliefs into my photography business too, and buy mostly second hand products, use recycled paper products when necessary and use only natural lighting!
